Go ahead, make my day!

I seriously love unexpected gifts... not necessarily extravagant or expensive-it's the little things (and little kids) that make me smile. Like these!

Happy Earth Day and even happier birthday Elizabeth :)

Well I knew it was inevitable...I am many posts behind. But I guess I have to start somewhere so I will start with the most recent exciting events. Friday was Elizabeth's birthday! We also had very little time to fill with teaching which always makes for a good day at school :) First thing in the morning we had Earth Games, when we came back in we invited Mrs. Overstreet's class over for "D.E.A.R" time. Instead of reading this is what they found...
we had a nice surprise birthday breakfast to celebrate our favorite kindergarten teacher!
And then, if it wasn't good enough to have had that kind of morning the boss left at 11 and we had a concert on the hill at 1! The concert was so.much.fun! The little ones loved clapping and dancing around and I loved dancing with them :) the most amusing part was Elizabeth's Christopher directing the band luckily I got some on video.

tulips, extra recess and egg hunts=fun!

Hooray for the week before spring break! This was a good week and not just because I knew that after 12:30 on Friday there would be no teaching for a whole week! On Tuesday I was very happy to find out that our Thinking Maps class had been canceled and while working in my room I got these delivered to me! I thought they were beautiful. Elizabeth thought they smelled like death and sadness....



Wednesday we played with the gps units and went geo cashing. Tombe announced that it was the best geo cashing day ever after we found the first bag full of erasers and stickers!




Thursday was April Fools day and the joke was on me because while I was teaching everyone else was at lunch or outside for recess. All of a sudden I realized the hall was completely dark and silent so I told the kids everyone must have disappeared. They lovedddd playing along with me as we searched for clues to where everyone could have gone. I let them skip up and down the hallway before we decided that if no one else was working we shouldn't either so we went outside for some extra recess ourselves :)




Friday was fun. We got to play on the new playground and then we had an Easter egg hunt before sending the kids home for a whole week.... now all that is left to do is pack for NYC!

I was concerned that the dozen eggs we were incubating in our classroom were not going to hatch and I was going to have to pull a switch a roo on the kids and just go buy some but today I heard a peeping coming from the incubator! I walked over and saw that one little egg had started to crack. We watched all day and finally right after the kids got on the buses he hatched! I brought him home tonight and introduced him to Ginger. On Friday the little chickadee got to meet my favorite kiddos ever-the Wall kids. yay!Hannah was too cute. Love them and their mama!

Reasons I love to teach

Zachary picked a freshly bloomed daffodil. I was mad at first..I said Zachary! Don't pick the flowers! And he hands it to me and said I picked it for you Ms. Scott.... forgiven :)

Emma was waiting her turn to dig in the raised bed and she weeded... she called it picking flowers for me.
Best job in the world... obviously!

Friday was one of the most fun days I have had at Fishburn so far. Friday is our greenhouse day so Nicholas's mom came in and planted rosemary and lemon balm with the kids. They loved rolling their sleeves up and getting dirty. After that we went back to the classroom long enough to get our gardening gloves and talk about what they were going to be doing to help get our big garden going. We walked outside and starting laying newspaper. It was orderly at first but then all of the MD kids came out and it became a free for all- literally. The news was there, school board members and the PR people from roanoke city and of course none of the other teachers were going to get the kids in order so I started yelling :) finally I got all of 1st grade and MD in a line and things started to run smoothly. It was really cool- the kids laid down stacks of newspaper and then later in the day the older kids spread compost on top. Well after order was restored and things were going well the news guy came up to me, I was trying my best to avoid eye contant but he found me anyway, asked if I was a teacher and if he could ask me a few questions. Ugh. So he went through the whole interview and then realzied his mic battery was dead. While the camera man went to get a replacement I had to make small talk with him and it also gave me enough time to get nervous. Long story short I ended up on the 5 oclock news sounding like an idiot :)

Spring time!

Spring is finally here and I'm pretty excited about it.
This has been a pretty busy week.
On Wednesday the leprechauns visited our classroom. The kids had talked about it all week. They colored everything I gave them green and came up with plans of how they could catch a leprechaun. Wednesday morning they came in and were disappointed when the leprechaun hadn't been there yet. They did notice the little trail of gold and green stars though and word in the hallway was that he had already been to Mrs. Hollie's room so we just had to wait him out. He finally came while they were in library. I made sure to keep the lights off and only destroy things while no children were in the hallway. The 2nd graders were almost as excited as my class and every single one of them stopped me in the hall to tell me the leprechaun had been in my classroom. All of the kids absolutely loved collecting the gold and cleaning up. Adorable.
